On Monday 18 April around 200 school children from across the county squeezed onto the plinth in the cathedral for what was another hugely successful outreach concert. Music consisted of Vivalid's Gloria, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.4 in G, Handel's Organ Concerto No.4 and Bruch's Violin Concerto No.1 in G minor. The orchestra was made up of cathedral school pupils along with many of the school's dedicated team of instrumental teachers. Many soloists from the school were showcased including James Wall organ, Anna Taylor violin, Felicity Ardrey, Miranda Haydn-Jones, Anna Taylor, Emily Tompkins, sopranos and Tim Hanks countertenor. Choirs, other than those from the cathedral schools, were Holme Lacy Primary School, Burghill Community Primary School, King's Caple Primary School, Much Marcle CE Primary School, Much Brich CE Primary School. David Evans, Director of Music at HCS and conductor on the night was immensely proud of all who took part.

The school Chamber Choir has successfully made it through to the third round of this year's BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition. They made it through the area selection round held in March at the Anvil, Basingstoke, receiving great praise from the two adjudicators. The next stage is National Selection which consists of a team of adjudicators lisenting to all those successful choirs from the Area Selection rounds (19 in total) and selecting the best six to go forward to the National Finals held in Liverpool in November. This takes place on Wednesday 18 June.

They made it through the preliminary round by submitting two recordings from their new cd - namely, Be thou my vision by Bob Chilcott, with Mary Wall, soprano, as soloist and God is gone up by Gerald Finzi. Copies of the cd, priced £10 can be purchased at The Outback in Church Street or by contacting the Music Administrator on 01432 363531.
