Biennial Inspection of the Combined Cadet Force

On May 16th Vice Admiral Adrian Johns ADC CBE Second Sea Lord and Commander-in Chief Naval Home Command inspected Hereford Cathedral School's Combined Cadet Force Contingent at Wyeside, the school's playing fields. Accompanying the inspection was the Band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines based at Britannia Royal Navy College Dartmouth.

The CCF is thriving at Hereford Cathedral School and is a tribute to the dedication of the staff and senior pupils involved. The CCF meets every Friday between 4.00 - 5.30pm and is very popular with the third year recruits, many of whom could be seen to be enjoying the range of activities and opportunities offered by the CCF during the afternoon of the inspection.

The CCF is not confined to Friday afternoon's; most weekends and holidays there are camps, competitions and outdoor activities organised by the three contingents. In 2005 the Royal Navy Section provided cadets for the Remembrance Sunday parade and the Trafalgar bicentennial in Hereford Cathedral. The Army Section provide March and Shoot teams that continue to be along the best in the Brigade along with orienteerers, who regularly win individual and team prizes, as well as expeditions last year to the Pyrenees and Cyprus. The Royal Air Force Section qualified again this year for the National Finals of the RAF Ground Training Competition, making it consistently one of the top twelve contingents in the country. Recently three cadets completed Gliding Scholarships and earned their silver wings.
