Earl Russell visits
Hereford Cathedral School
The Earl Professor Conrad Russell
visited the Cathedral School on Friday 7th November to give its annual lecture.
To
an enthalled Cathedral audience, Lord Russell brilliantly addressed the
question: "How Far are We a Free Society?"
Lord Russell is a prominent
member of the House of Lords - he was elected "Peer of the Year"
in 1996, and as a Liberal Democrat spokes-person in the Upper chamber,
he came top in his party when the elections were held to retain hereditary
peers. He is also great grandson of the Victorian Prime Minister, Lord
John Russell, and son of the philosopher, Bertrand Russell, as well as
being a distinguished 17th Century Historian.
Headmaster, Dr Howard Tomlinson,
commented: "There is no-one I would have rather listened to on the
subject of freedom than Lord Russell. His visit is a considerable honour
to this Foundation".
