Girls Sport Flourishing at HCSThe start of the 2006 academic year has seen girls sport flourishing at Hereford Cathedral School. The Under 16 netball team has just won the county title, beating their closest rival 'Bishops' by one goal. This closely contested match highlighted the girls determination not to give away a single point - both sides defending and attacking with 100% determination. At this tournament, the Captain, Molly Tucker led the team to beat Aylestone, Bishops B and Kingstone. HCS then beat John Kyrle in the quarterfinals and went head to head against Wigmore and then finally Bishops the school's main rival who the team had never beaten before. A special mention must go to the defenders of the team, Georgia Murphy and Issy Ross who excelled throughout the competition.This winning team now goes on to the next round of the tournament, the Midlands competition, as county champions. The Under 16's hockey team has also won the county title this week. They beat John Masefield and Wigmore in the first round and went on to play Bishops in the semi-finals and John Masefield again in the finals the score was 3-0. Although traditionally a summer sport, the England trials for 'Rounders' have just taken place. Hereford Cathedral School can now boast more international players in this sport than any other national representation. Congratulations go to Tessa Langford (who is the England rounders top scorer) Louisa Smith, Abby Whiteman and Emily Tompkins. The 1st 11 Girls Hockey team fresh from their successful tour of Barbados celebrating wining the U19 county tournament, captained by Anna Oliver.
