New York trip - October 2004

On 24th October a group of 21 Fifth and Sixth Form students and three staff departed on the Economics Trip to New York.  On the first evening we went up the Empire State Building to see the Manhattan skyline by night, a truly memorable experience.

On Monday we enjoyed a four hour walking tour of the financial district which included Wall Street. This was followed by a ferry trip to Ellis Island via Liberty Island which provided an excellent photo opportunity of the Statue of Liberty. Following this, we visited the Immigration Museum on Ellis Island. Having caught the last ferry home, we then decided to walk the four miles back to our Hotel in order to see more of Lower Manhattan which was fantastic.

Tuesday saw us visit Bloomingdales in the morning with our first opportunity to enjoy retail therapy New York style. In afternoon we visited the Guggenheim Museum of modern Art and Central Park before taking a bus journey home. In the evening we went to 42nd Street and rather appropriately watched the musical '42nd' Street which rounded off an extremely busy but nonetheless amazing day.

On Wednesday we started the day with our second walking tour of the week - this time of mid town Manhattan and we enjoyed a morning break in the vast, inspiring Grand Central Station. In the afternoon we went on the famous Circle LIne Cruise, a two hour commentary around Manhattan Island.

Thursday arrived all too soon as this was our final day. We ended in somewhat spectacular form by spending the morning in Macy's Department Store, before leaving to fly back to Heathrow that night.
