Sixth Form Centre Announced

Mr Paul Smith, the Headmaster, and Mr James Terry, the Head of the Sixth Form, have had a busy first year at Hereford Cathedral School. After a careful review of the school's needs Mr Paul Smith has announced this week major development plans to improve and develop the Sixth Form experience at Hereford Cathedral School. These developments range across the curriculum, the re- organisation of the pastoral system and probably the most significant development, the creation of a dedicated Sixth Form centre in the Zimmerman building in Castle Street.

Example work study area..The new Sixth Form Centre will comprise of a open plan dedicated work area, the academic heart of the Sixth Form, which will be served by a suite of Sixth Form dedicated ICT facilities including a wireless network for pupils' laptops. This supervised area is being carefully planned so that Sixth Form students will have a work area that enhances the individual learning opportunities of a modern approach to A level study. In addition to this state of the art study area the Sixth Form will have a dedicated social area designed with the aim of creating a coffee shop environment for civilised interaction.

Excitingly, the availability of the Sixth Centre for September 2006 has allowed a reform of the pastoral system for the Sixth Form with small specialist Sixth Form tutor groups being constructed across the two years. In the future a tutor will only be dealing with a maximum of seven pupils a year with their University applications.

Not content with just modernising the facilities available for the Sixth Form Mr Paul Smith has introduced AS and A level Psychology to the Sixth Form curriculum from the start of September 2006. Further information regarding this course can be obtained from Mr Richard Batchelor, the Academic Deputy Head.
